Graphic designer Hjalti Karlsson has been awarded the 2013 Torsten and Wanja Söderberg Prize.

Icelandic graphic designer Hjalti Karlsson of design duo Karlssonwilker has been awarded this year’s Torsten and Wanja Söderberg Prize for his outstanding achievements in graphic design.

From magazine pages to motion graphics and site-specific art installations, Karlsson’s contemporary visual language bears witness to classic knowledge and Icelandic story-telling traditions.

Hjalti Karlsson's broad approach to typography, graphic design and visual communication has a profound basis in humanistic and artistic considerations. His work spans from the intimate small-scale object to the comprehensive inclusive information graphics programme, comments the prize committee.

The Torsten and Wanja Söderberg Prize seeks to support design and the decorative arts in the Nordic region. Each year a designer from Scandinavia is selected from a jury panel and awarded approximately Euro 1 million.

The prize will be awarded at a ceremony in Gothenburg, Sweden on 4 November 2013, alongside the opening of an exhibition by Karlsson.
