The Mori Art Museum in Tokyo is currently presenting Sensing Nature, an exhibition that explores ways in which to reconsider Japan’s sense of nature and running until 7 November 2010. The exhibition features works by Tokujin Yoshioka, Takashi Kuribayashi and Taro Shinoda and is part of the museum’s 2010 theme: “Redefining Japan”.
Contemporary art and design works examine the close relationship that Japan has always had to nature while also looking at the collective cultural memory of the Japanese people. The different installations all make use of the expansive space in the museum while incorporating reminders of the relationship between humans and nature. It’s a traditional Japanese idea that nature should be felt rather then rationalised and this belief is weaved into the installations.
