Walk the talk

Put on your walking shoes and get ready to take part in Violet's Walk, one of the winning initiatives in the Your Street Cape Town Challenge.

Part of the Project

On Saturday 17 March 2012, five Cape Town creatives will literally walk the talk when they launch Violet’s Walk in Cape Town, their winning entry in the Your Street Challenge.

Luke Pedersen, Jenny Pedersen, Kirsty Rielly, Jess Pedersen and Katherine Spindler were granted R50 000 in Design Indaba’s Your Street Cape Town Challenge for Violet’s Walk, their idea for a clearly marked walking route in Woodstock with resting benches placed strategically along the way.

The project was inspired by an 89-year-old Woodstock resident, Violet George, who has a set walking route in Woodstock. Conversations with George sparked the idea for a walking route as a way to re-energise the Woodstock community by encouraging people to walk, and in doing so connect with their neighbours to make the streets better and safer.

Violet’s Walk will be officially launched on Saturday 17 March 2012 at 10am at the Fairview Park in Woodstock. Everybody is welcome – just be sure to bring your bicycle or walking shoes to join in the first Violet’s Walk. And not to worry, there are resting benches, designed by Pedersen & Lennard, along the way. More than just going for a leisurely walk, there will also be live music, giveaways, food and activities.
