The winners of the Nampak Packaging Design Challenge were announced at Design Indaba Expo 2009. The professional category winner was Janece Frick, whose innovative solution to packaging wine bottles considered a secondary use of the pack as a lampshade. The runner-up was Heidi Kumpf. The winner of the student category was Janet Botha of Tshwane University of Technology and the runner-up, Mponaphe Setabo of Vaal University of Technology.
