For the love of local

A poster campaign draws attention to the importance of buying and eating local food.


The Canary Project is an art and media initiative that aims to widen public understanding of climate change. They recently published a book, Green Patriot Posters, in which local food and bicycles were the two dominant themes.

The Green Patriot Posters, featured here, draw attention to the importance of eating and buying local food, as a core value for a sustainable economy and one that cuts across ideological divides. Michael Bierut also contributed his creativity to this project.

The official launch of Green Patriot Posters takes place on 26 April 2011 in New York, where Beirut and DJ Spooky aka Paul Miller will moderate a panel discussion.

Michael Bierut

Michael Bierut was born in Cleveland, Ohio, and studied graphic design at the University of Cincinnati’s College of Design, Architecture, Art and Planning. Prior to joining Pentagram as a partner in 1990, he was vice president of graphic design at Vignelli Associates.

Paul D Miller

Paul D Miller is a New York-based musician, conceptual artist and writer best known by his stage name DJ Spooky that Subliminal Kid. He uses digital music and multi-media to create a type of post-modern sculpture in the tradition of composers such as John Cage and Afrika Bambaata.
