Intimate scale

Philippe Bousquet, Geraldine Fenn and Marchand van Tonder exhibit their contemporary jewellery at the Bell-Roberts Gallery.

Three contemporary Jo’burg jewellers each produced 12 miniatures for the Tales from the Mantelpiece exhibition at the Bell-Roberts Gallery. Philippe Bousquet, Geraldine Fenn and Marchand van Tonder used traditional jewellery and metalworking techniques, as well collage and assemblage strategies, to create inviting narratives. With the generally small scale of the work, the viewer’s attention is drawn into each piece in a very close, personal way that highlights the preciousness of the small works.

Geraldine Fenn

Geraldine Fenn is a South African jeweller who received her national higher certificate in jewellery design and manufacture from the Natal Technikon in 1998. She also has qualifications in archaeology, classics, art history and fine art from the University of the Witwatersrand.
