Tomas Kral exhibited a range of designs at Maison & Objet 2013 revealing his distinct creative approach of fusing unexpected ideas with humour and freshness.
Swiss designer Tomas Kral is known for his preoccupation with designing objects and artefacts that give insight into materials and processes. At this year’s Maison & Objet event Kral exhibited his “Clown Nose” containers, “Terracotta Lamps” and “Homework” desk, all revealing his experimentation with craftsmanship.
“Terracotta Lamps” were launched at this year’s Maison & Objet by Kral and will see extended creations of terracotta inspired objects throughout the year to form a complete collection. The lamps are made from red ceramic, which alludes to traditional terracotta objects found in the Extremadura region of Spain. The pendant and table lamps are inline with the growing desire for organic and sustainable products for the home.
Kral’s “Clown Nose” containers are a range of ceramic artefacts inspired by the red clown nose. The containers use a cover made of cork, which is attached to the container by an elastic band, symbolising a clown’s nose. The containers come in three sizes and shapes and are a fun, quirky and full of character addition to home or office spaces.
Kral’s “Homework” desk is the perfect example of Kral’s exploration of simple and elegant design. The functional desk is made of wood and an aluminium sheet, which is folded to create a delicate extension ideal for storing documents, objects and even books.
