Design Helsinki

20+12 Design Stories from Helsinki is a journey through the 2012 World Design Capital, looking at what design can do in a city.

How does design have an impact on our everyday lives? How does design inspire people? These are some of the questions that the book 20+12 Design Stories from Helsinki attempts to answer.

In celebration of the Finnish city’s naming as the 2012 World Design Capital, this book looks at Helsinki through the eyes of architects, designers and artists. It looks at how the city has developed and what it will look like in the future.

Over the course of 192 pages photographer Katja Hagelstam and graphic designer  Piëtke Visser takes the viewer on a journey through the city, looking at what the “cultural movers and shakers” are up to, with interviews by Eva Lamppu.

The book takes the reader in the homes and studios of the city’s foremost creatives while a selection of 12 essay reflect on the essence of Helsinki, looking at everything from street art to city planning.
