King Debs raises a fist against injustice with his latest murals

Multimedia designer and Emerging Creative, King Debs responds to social unrest with his larger-than-life street art.

2015 Emerging Creative Ofentse Letebele otherwise known as King Debs is a man of many talents. His skills extend into music, visual art, public works and design. This year, at the Design Indaba Expo, he drew the crowd’s attention with his animation visuals and upcycled product designs.

Since then, the Cape Town-based multimedia designer has been creating graffiti murals in Cape Town and Johannesburg as part of his #AMANDLA project, which is all about using art to inspire and bring people together. The artworks are responses to the unrest abroad and the student protests at home, which he experienced first hand while in Tshwane.

King Debs’ mural in Johannesburg can’t be missed. The series of multi-coloured, larger-than-life fists takes over a street-facing wall at the Hillbrow Theatre – an establishment that offers after-school drama and arts programs to neighbourhood children.
