Own, love and improve your street
Inspired by Design Indaba, the Your Street Challenge is a competition to transform space through creative thought, one street at a time. Having already given away more than half a million rand to urban upgrade initiatives in cities around the world, Your Street Live is casting the net even wider, and this is your chance to take part.
Your Street Live is open to global entries. Simply send your proposal for how the area where you live, work or play can be improved by harnessing the transformative power of creativity, design and innovation.
It could be a system that makes recycling easier, or a cost-effective way of installing LEDs to make a park safer at night. What about a structure made from reclaimed materials that provides seating in an busy urban centre? The possibilities are as numerous as there are streets in the world.
Seek the solutions
With an emphasis on solutions, Your Street Live asks you to pitch your ideas for urban enhancement, anywhere in the world, via an online entry form.
The Your Street jury, with representatives from Design Indaba and the creative community, will select proposals that are practical, sustainable to implement and will have a meaningful impact on the community it intends to enhance.
While a total of R1 million in prize money will be given away, you should work on a budget of R50 000 to realise your project.
Big, bigger, biggest
More than just the biggest Your Street Challenge to date, Your Street Live is also the biggest creative competition on the African continent.
The Your Street Challenge is making waves globally, with successful projects already on the streets of Cape Town, Gauteng and Eindhoven in the Netherlands, with plans in the pipeline to launch the initiative in cities in North and South America, Australia and central Europe.
What are you waiting for? This is your chance to leave your creative mark on the street – with the possibility of it positively affecting the way countless people experience working, living or playing on their street or in their community.
We're looking for ideas that have the potential to grow! You must be able to carry your project through to completion, should you win. We’re not just looking for dreamers; we want the do-ers to get involved too!
