Wonderful water

They say the best things in life are free and Host City Cape Town is making this adage work for football fans in the city.

As part of Green Goal 2010, FLOW, Celebrity SA and the City of Cape Town is bringing free and clean drinking water to soccer fans along the Fan Walk and at the Fan Fest at the Grand Parade.

With Green Goal 2010, the city has the opportunity to demonstrate its commitment to responsible environmental management while improving the livelihoods of its people and sensitising them to pressing environmental concerns. One of the greening measures undertaken by the City of Cape Town was to provide access to safe drinking water, so they collaborated with FLOW to achieve this green goal.

FLOW, a national social benefit campaign by Greenhouse, created water stations with a minimalistic style and approach. “Their function as water dispensers required a completely hygienic and user-friendly design form and aesthetic,” said Warren Turner, industrial designer for FLOW.

FLOW has a total of 33 water stations in Cape Town. Ten are “Tower Units” and 23 are “Lollypop stands”. Many fans were said to be complimentary of the initiative and impressed by the available of clean and free drinking water.
