Beams of light lit up the streets of Sydney, creating a buzzing and delightful atmosphere.
Sydney-based design firm Frost* collaborated with lighting design and sound engineering consultants Arup to create and interactive environment through sound and light.
Referred to as the Ricochet, the installation was designed for the Sydney festival’s Vivid Light programme and has been installed in the Suez Canal laneway in The Rocks, Sydney.
The piece features an interesting network of laser beams that create a web-like structure within the space. Reacting to the movement of people, the installation produces sound as well as colour changes. Award-winning songwriter and producer Lee Groves created a custom soundscape for the work, which led to the identity and title, Ricochet.
Frost* and Arup joined more than 60 local and international creative whose works were transformed into colourful after-dark canvases of light-art sculpture, innovative installations and grand-scale projections.
Vivid Sydney is the Southern Hemisphere’s biggest annual celebration of light, music and ideas, and took place earlier this year.
