Versatile Velcro

Velcro has been used in everything from heart surgery to nuclear power plants and disposable nappies. Rachel O’Neill brings it to design.

What do you get when you combine Velcro with a passion for music and playing the piano? Large-scale lighting and wall hanging pieces made from custom-dyed Velcro. Designer Rachel O’Neill lets the melody and rhythm of music inspire her interesting creations.

The Velcro pieces are part of O’Neill’s Looplaa Collection that uses these hook-and-loop fasteners (Velcro) to create a range of fun products that include lights, floor and wall coverings, and children’s toys.

Combining Velcro with a variety of tactile materials, unique and playful one-of-a-kind installations and limited-edition pieces are created. Based in Ireland, O'Neill enjoys transforming heavy-duty industrial textiles and fabrics into beautiful design objects, often incorporating materials like feathers and adding metallic finishes.
