Hail to the Thief is Cape Town artist Brett Murray’s most recent collection of work and is best described as an attack on abuses of power, corruption and political dumbness.

Using populist imagery and language, Hail to the Thief can be viewed at the Goodman Gallery in Woodstock, Cape Town, until 8 January 2011.

The work comprises bronzes, etchings, paintings and silk-screens. It comments, almost overtly, on bad governance while Murray also incorporates humour to “expose both the paucity of morals and greed within the ruling elite”.
