Cycling is the primary mode of transportation for thousands of South Africans. Then there are those people that cycle for fun or fitness. Either way, South Africa’s cycling culture is alive and well.

Bicycling enthusiasts and photographers Stan Engelbrecht and Nic Grobler are documenting this culture with their project Bicycle Portraits, a self-published, full-colour, hardcover book, featuring everyday South Africans with their bicycles.

The book is an exploration of why  they ride them and why  they love it, while also raising awareness about the health, environmental and cost benefits of cycling.
