Karim Rashid’s furniture designs for Punkalive combines elements of the natural world with mathematical constructs.

Finnish design company Punkalive featured new furniture designs by Karim Rashid at the 2011 IMM Cologne in Paris recently.

Punkalives’s products are made from laminated Finnish spruce, shaped with a computer controlled milling machine. Rashid’s High Roller lounge chair is a harmoniously mysterious piece that draws on the natural and artificial to create a rather complex form.

The Maya stackable chair takes its inspiration from the ancient civilisation of the same name, blending the natural character of wood with a digital production process. The Maya chair is said to be sustainable and biodegradable with a futurist presence.
