Rebirth Garments are crowdfunding to develop their signature range of gender non-conforming wearables and accessories for people on the full spectrum of gender, size, and ability. Custom designed and sewn by hand, each piece is tailored to the wearer’s exact specifications with no standard sizes.

Transgender individuals, people with disabilities and genderqueer communities often struggle to find clothes that are both comfortable and appealing. “These communities have very particular clothing needs that are not adequately served by mainstream clothing designers,” reads the company’s Kickstarter campaign.

Rebirth Garments is a well-established brand created by Chicago-based Sky Cubacub. A genderqueer person of colour, Cubacub struggled with anxiety and panic disorder. The range makes a range of subsidised garments accessible to youth who are often overlooked by mainstream design.

“The line creates a community where all people can confidently express their individuality and identity,” writes Cubacub. “In particular, our trans* and disabled communities have very particular clothing needs that are not adequately served by mainstream clothing designers. Instead of being centred on cisgender, heterosexual, white, thin people, Rebirth Garments is centred on QueerCrip people.”
