Material forms

Lorenzo Nassimbeni recently took part in an exhibition that looked at the creative handling of materials for quality and sustainability.

Lorenzo Nassimbeni recently participated on the 10th Triennial for Form and Content: Materials Revisited exhibition at the Museum for Applied Arts Frankfurt, Germany.

Some 100 artists participated in the exhibition, with Nassimbeni and Marianne Fassler, on whose recommendation Nassimbeni took part in the exhibition, being the only South African artists to participate.

The exhibition looked at the creative handling of materials, focussing specifically on quality and sustainability.

More than just considering the finished products, the exhibition looked at materials as a form of knowledge in itself. The materials were also investigated as a source of inspiration and artistic inquiry.

Through examples of furniture, fashion, tableware and more, Materials Revisited explored the different approaches artists adopt to create immediate and direct connections between concepts and materials.

Nassimbeni’s wallcovering design entitled "Success" was shown alongside Fassler’s fashion design, sculptural pieces by Hwa Yoon Lee and felt designs by Mary-Anne Williams.
