Made to fit

Vivian Chiu’s Inception Chair comprises 10 chair frames that all fit together to form one, very interesting, seat.

Rhodes Island School of Design student Vivian Chiu created a seating concept that draws on the archetype of a chair nestled within other chairs that are progressively smaller.

The Inception Chair consists of 10 chair frames that perfectly fit into each other with their hand-cut grooves that are cut out of the inner edges of the seat and back of the frames. The mechanisms of the Inception Chair works so that the pegs fit into the grooves of the chair one size bigger and slides into place so that the horizontal edge between the chair seat and the back are able to line up. The same simple mechanism allows the chair to be taken apart and easily put together again.

Puzzling perhaps, but also lots of fun.
