Three contemporary Jo’burg jewellers each produced 12 miniatures for the Tales from the Mantelpiece exhibition at the Bell-Roberts Gallery. Philippe Bousquet, Geraldine Fenn and Marchand van Tonder used traditional jewellery and metalworking techniques, as well collage and assemblage strategies, to create inviting narratives. With the generally small scale of the work, the viewer’s attention is drawn into each piece in a very close, personal way that highlights the preciousness of the small works.
