Dutch furniture studio De Vorm focus on bringing environmental thinking into their design and production processes. They aim to minimise waste in every aspect and use simple solutions, smart production innovations and suprising material choices to extend the lifecycle of a product. Their extensive work with PET technology exemplifies this design mentality.
All of the seats in the LJ series by Dutch furniture studio De Vorm are made from recycled PET bottles. To make the seats, traditional production steps have been consolidated into one smart 3D pressing technique. PET Felt is made of recycled bottles that have been turned into soft and strong felt. This material is both long-lasting and UV stabilised.
PET Felt is not only recycled, it is recyclable itself. It has a soft, natural feel and offers exceptional comfort as well as sound dampening properties. The LJ series is designed by Laurens van Wieringen.
The LJ series chairs and stools have been used in the Google Campus in Madrid, the Nike European Headquarters, Umami Paris – the very first Matcha café in the heart of Paris, the Mod co-working space in San Francisco.
The LJ series is was one of the pre-selected Green Product Awards nominees, and was presented to a live audience at the Stockholm Furniture Fair in mid-February 2016.
