A furniture show

Nature, music and ethnicities inspire furniture designers Casamento, and is seen in their latest exhibition "Show and Tell".

Known for producing furniture that is full of ideas and inspiration, Cape Town-based furniture designers Casamento are holding a short and sweet exhibition to showcase their latest projects.

Show and Tell was brought about through Casamento’s recent move to The Woodstock Foundry where they wish to showcase their creations before owners take them away. As Casamento manufacture to order, the exhibition seeks to allow the public a glimpse of what their work is all about.

“The Promise” is a natural chair created using pure hemp linen and bare untreated pine to reveal the beauty in simplicity. As the upholstery is uncomplicated and drapes over the chair effortlessly, an unadorned lightness is generated. The holistic appearance of the chair is contrasted with black embroidery along its side, stitching a poem by Afrikaans poet Ingrid Jonker.

Casamento also showcase a set of chairs designed and created for a Rooibos tea farm in the Cederberg. The set is unusual for the furniture manufacturer as it is bright in colour. Stepping out of their comfort zone, Casamento were inspired by the use of colour and hope to incorporate it into their future designs.

Show and Tell will be on display at The Woodstock Foundry from 18 to 20 October 2012.
