Design to improve life

The INDEX: Awards, the biggest design prize in the world, is inviting nominations for the 2013 iteration of the competition – seeking designs that improve life.

With the mandate and theme of "Design to Improve Life", the INDEX: Award is the biggest design prize in the world.

Every second year the Danish state calls upon the world to submit life-improving ideas that target and solve challenges of human life such as hunger, lack of sanitation, loneliness, elderly care, clean drinking water, terrorism, infrastructure and sustainable energy production.

The INDEX: Award allocates €500 000 to five winners and accepts entries from all design disciplines, from product design to architecture to communication design, service design, system design, strategy design and interaction design.

The public are invited to nominate ideas for improving life via an online nomination process – completely free of charge. The award seeks to be as democratic as possible, with the nomination serving as just one manifestation of this ideal. Anybody can nominate his or her favourite life-improving design for the INDEX: Award and all entries will be displayed on the nomination website www.nominateforindexaward.dk after completing a quick and easy nomination process.

The award spans five categories, namely: Body, home, work, play and community. The winner in each category receives €100 000. Click here to see the 2011 INDEX: Award winners.

The deadline for INDEX: Awards submissions is Monday 17 December 2012. The finalist will be announced in May 2013 while the award ceremony will take place in Denmark in September 2013.
