David Tlale's second take on Vlisco

The South African fashion designer's latest collection juxtaposes lavish Java prints with tailored structure at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Africa.

South African fashion designer David Tlale continues his partnership with Dutch fabric house Vlisco in his 2015 Spring/Summer collection. Called "Feminine Allure", the collection was presented at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Africa on 1 November.

The range, which originally debuted at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week New York, offsets brightly coloured Java prints against structured, almost architectural white shirts. Tlale says he wanted his designs to celebrate the feminity and power of the modern African women.

The collection also contains several flowy feminine ensembles in pale hues of peach and pink that reflect the designer’s penchant for structural detailing. Fabric choices includes a rich array of cotton, silk crepe, wool crepe, silk raffia and chiffon.

Tlale’s talent and contribution to the continent’s fashion industry will be recognised with upcoming two awards. Later this month he will receive the Fashion Designer of the Year Award at the African Diaspora Awards in New York and the African Icon of Hope Award at African Fashion and Design Week in Nigeria.
