Tomas Kral transforms the image of a simple cork with his ’s Plug collection of recyclable furniture.
Slovakian-born, Swiss-based designer product designer Kral is renowned for designing objects that are accessible, comprehensible and combine traditional materials with revolutionary technologies.
His Plug collection includes a variety of lamps, vases, chairs and side tables, all made using cork as the primary material.
Each object in the collection draws a distinct connection between two materials: glass and cork. Through this connection Kral is able to establish a relationship of opposites: glass is hard, heavy, shiny and cold, while cork is soft, light, matte and smooth.
The Plug collection was exhibited by PMC Design, a Spanish product design company, at the 2014 Maison et Objet trade show in Paris, France.
