Coca-Cola gives itself - and us - a lift with designer bottles that ooze optimism
Coke certainly adds life to the design world with its five new limited edition bottles. These gorgeous drinking vessels for Club Coca-Cola are being released one by one into the worldwide market, rolling out from this December into 2006.
Which means that South Africans will indeed get their fair share of this beautiful beverage packaging - obviously intended as collectors' pieces for Coke addicts. Five creative teams from across the globe, including studios such as the renowned Designer's Republic, were selected to produce the bottle designs.
Africa, South America, Europe, North America and Asia all form part of Coke's new designer Club. Despite the continental and supposed cultural gaps you might expect, the designs work together as a whole even though each zone is marked by a change in the colour palette. So it seems that this Club, very much in line with the Coca-Cola Company's trans-national reach, has a distinct global flavour. Cola, perhaps? At any rate, kudos must go to South Africa's REX and Tennant McKay who came up with the swirling, curvaceous patterns that adorn the Africa bottle. Bottoms up!
