Car culture

Stefan Sagmeister designed the publication CULTURE, marking the 40th anniversary of BMW’s cultural commitment.

Culture moves in Stefan Sagmeister’s new book for the BMW Group.

In celebration of the 40th anniversary of the group’s commitment to culture, they teamed up with Sagmeister to create CULTURE, a limited-edition publication that has an integrated remote-controlled car.

The book is a look at all the cultural activities that BMW have undertaken. CULTURE has hidden wheels and comes with a remote control to make the book/car move.

Only 1488 hand-signed copies, which are not available for sale, form an image depicting the graphically abstracted image of the BMW “four cylinder”, when arranged numerically. Each individual book cover represents a unique, fragmented specimen of the larger image.

CULTURE is divided into four parts: Contemporary art, classical music and jazz, architecture and design, and culture within the company.
