House-in-a-Can is a concept by architects Austin + Mergold that considers disused grain silos as a low-cost housing solution.
Corrugated and galvanised steel grain silos are some of the cheapest and most efficient enclosures available and can easily be adapted to accommodate a single family.
Austin + Mergold explain that this form of prefabricated housing is also an attempt to “preserve the agricultural vernacular of the American landscape and offer an alternative to suburban tract housing”.
The silos can be configured in a number of ways to add individual flair to each can.
