Break-up shake-up

It’s kinda weird but it’s also kinda cool – the Museum of Broken Relationships.

It’s probably a rather common problem: The predicament of what to do with the sentimental objects that defined a relationship, when the relationship is over.

Every relationship has its “things”, so what is one to do with these things when the relationship is over? A “waste not, want not” culture would dictate that one should find something useful to do with it, give it a second life of sorts. The Museum of Broken Relationships can help with these dilemmas.

A travelling exhibition based on failed relationships, the Museum of Broken Relationships offers relationship recovery in the form of creation – by contributing to the museum’s collection.

With everything from handcuffs to suitcases, teddy bears, photographs and pillows, the museum is a way of helping people to formally recognise the demise of an important relationship.

The museum was started by artists Olinka Vistica and Drazen Grubisic, who were keen to find a place for the things they shared when their four-year relationship came to an end. The concept was started in Croatia and has since toured internationally.
