Investigating the boundaries between functionality and symbolism, and simultaneously the line between art and design, New York-based artist and designer Sebastian Errazuriz created the Magistral Cabinet.
Some 80 000 bamboo skewers cover the cabinet, serving as a protective layer to safeguard possessions inside the cabinet. The concealed doors slide open to reveal the inner mechanisms and the many different compartments inside the cabinet.
Assembly 80 000 bamboo skewers to a cabinet is no easy took, as it took 12 woodworkers six weeks to hammer the skewers onto the carved wooden structure.
