If it’s on the boil, it must be cooking! Be sure not to miss the latest rumblings of Cape Town’s independent film scene at The Fugard Theatre in the city on 20 July 2011.

On The Boil presents an evening of six new short films by some of the most exciting emerging filmmakers of the moment.

Hive is the highly topical, rhythmic visual poem by Garreth Bird that wonders who would be the queen if human nature were a hive. In Karlind Govender’s Anatoemy something is afoot while Be Phat Motel’s Sweetheart investigates what happens to a 1950s housewife when she forces herself out of an aimless routine.

Blackmilk Productions presents Jornada De Muerto, a dark tale about a man who is summoned by his lover and explores the relationship between life and death. Witness, Surfer, Dreamer and the Taliban from Afghanistan by Dale Yudelman is an examination of the ambivalent nature of personal truth and shared reality.

Control is a music video for Spoek Mathambo’s darkwave township house cover of the Joy Division classic ‘She’s Lost Control’ by Pieter Hugo and Michael Cleary.
