Biodegradable briefcase turns into compost

Dutch brand reWrap contributes to a sustainable future with its line of biodegradable products.

The Tree Bag is made by Dutch design company reWrap. A company inspired by the cradle-to-cradle principle, which means all its products are made of natural materials and are fully biodegradable.

The exterior of the minimalist style bag is created from pressed coconut husk fibres combined with a bit of natural resin, which together form a durable and water-resistant casing. The interior is comprised of 100 per cent natural, sundried rubber and is completely waterproof. The handle and clasp are fashioned from sustainably sourced walnut wood. A bee wax coating protects the wood detailing with a polished sheen, making it resistant to water damage. The bag is sewn together with natural thread made from wood pulp.

The all-natural composition of the briefcase means that the product is 100 per cent biodegradable, and can be returned to the soil as compost. Aside from the environmental benefits, reWrap is an advocate for social production and employs people with disabilities to sew the bags together in its Amsterdam-based studio.
