Kapsul by Meadow

Plastic pollution in personal care containers

Meadow, a Swedish start-up leverages aluminium cans to create a sustainable alternative to plastic packaging for beauty and personal care products.

Swedish startup Meadow, which reframes single-use plastics by introducing “Kapsul”—sealed aluminium cartridges that hold shampoo, lotion, or soap. These cartridges resemble the familiar form of drink cans but without the use of the pull tab; instead, a reusable dispenser (sold separately) pierces the top for a clean and frictionless dispense. By removing the pull tab and the rivet, we minimised raw material usage and increased the potential of a scalable, familiar, and fully recyclable product says inventor, Nick Paget. The Kapsul system results in a minimalist, premium aesthetic wrapped in a fully recyclable material.

Along with it’s ergonomic and aesthetic appeal, the Kapsul system targets an on-going ecological challenge: plastic pollution in personal care containers. By shifting to aluminium—already widely collected and infinitely recyclable— Meadow leverages existing recycling infrastructure without requiring massive new systems .

The drink can inspired form also offers a satisfying,  an intuitive user experience. Its familiar shape feels approachable and reassuring to consumers, while the dispenser mechanism delivers precision and mess-free use.

Taken together, this innovation suggests a future where beauty and hygiene products eschew traditional plastic for more thoughtful, sustainable formats—showcasing design's power to reconceive everyday objects, one refill at a time.
