In this strange short film by Russian animator Max Litvinov, a woman creates an alternate reality filled with dinosaurs.

Litvinov brings all his expertise as an illustrator, animation artist, game designer and programmer into this short film.

The woman in Dinosigning plays God on a futuristic playset where she can create and manipulate the lives of dinosaurs with blocks of colourful cubes. Litvinov, having dabbled in animated loops and GIFs, applies this cyclic aesthetic here.

The madness-inducing “bloop” sounds were made entirely on a Korg Monotron, an analogue synthesiser that can be held in one hand and generate thick and powerful sounds.

Litvinov’s film is fun but unsettling because of its bizarre animation style, warped perspectives and strange colour palette. One commenter on the video asked, “Duuude, what kind of drugs do you do? This is awesome!” We concur: hallucinatory and awesome.
