Harry Pearce on useful uselessness in graphic design

Conundrums, dreams and fluttering butterflies. Harry Pearce talks about his graphic design process.

The Schizophrenic Road is part of Harry Pearce’s journey with graphic design. In this Design Indaba talk he discusses working with the late Alan Fletcher, turning campaigns into graphic statements for the Witness Project (together with Peter Gabrielle), tapping into one’s dreams and the similarity between architecture and typography.

The spaces between buildings can be as important as the buildings themselves, says Harry Pearce.

Pearce also talks about the visual games he likes to play in his work and his ongoing interest in conundrums.

Useful uselessness and the magic of dreams and ideas are what drive his graphic design work.
