All our Blood

Harry Pearce’s presents an interactive experience on interconnectedness at Kyoto YouMe Triennale

Pentagram partner Harry Pearce has designed an interactive experience expanding on his ‘All Our Blood’ project. The installation is presented at the inaugural Kyoto YouMe Triennale, inside Kyoto’s historic Jushin Kaikan building, a Buddhist centre dating back to the 1930s. The project interrogates, what a single drop of blood says about humanity? An eleven-minute film follows a single drop of Pearce’s blood as it falls into water, its organic movement expanding into extraordinary, cloud-like formations. Accompanied by twenty-one minutes of music composed by Peter Gabriel, the work invites audiences to consider the fragile relationship between creation and destruction.

Pearce draws a striking parallel between the visual appearance of blood and an atomic cloud: one representing the essence of life, the other the possibility of its annihilation. Filmed by longtime collaborator Richard Foster, the installation becomes a powerful reflection on our shared humanity. The message that Pearce hopes to share is that ‘what happens to one ultimately happens to all’. Through the convergence of moving image, sound and symbolism, All Our Blood reminds us that our lives are inseparable, connected by the very substance that keeps us alive.
