Loopy Loom, created in response to the Design Museum’s Design Ventura challenge, students from Cambourne Village college  has been named the winner of the museum’s competition. In a vibrant display of sustainability, simplicity and creativity, Loopy Loom is a simple system designed to encourage the repurposing of discarded fabrics. Designed as a simple wooden frame with laser-cut edges for holding threads in place when weaving, users are directed to cut discarded textiles into strips that can be woven into panels that can then be used to create new textile based products. By repurposing otherwise discarded fabrics, the Loopy Loom aims to tackle the rising global problem of fashion’s textile waste.

The Design Museum’s Design Ventura competition was initiated in 2025 with the aim to foster creativity and environmental awareness among participants. Cambourne Village College’s Loopy Loom will be reproduced and sold at the museum’s shop, with the proceeds of sales being donated to a charity
