Jason Bruges Studio won the 2013 D&AD Award in the Spatial Design category for their “Nature Trail” project.
We created an artwork in a children's hospital that brings the environment to life, so that there are moments of distraction and fascination. It's basically a dream project in the history of projects we have been doing, says Bruges.
The unique project was completed in 2012 and saw the implementation of an interactive installation for child patients at Great Ormond Street Hospital in London.
“Nature Trail” is a nature-inspired interactive installation designed for distracting children on their way into surgery. The hospital walls become a natural canvas, with digital lookout points that reveal forest creatures such as horses, hedgehogs, birds and frogs.
The installation features two main elements: integrated LED panels functioning as a kind of wallpaper, and over 72 000 LED lights.
