If you believe that you’re the future of South Africa’s design industry, then show us your talent by applying for the Design Indaba Emerging Creatives 2022. The programme aims to unearth fresh local talent across a multitude of sectors and applications for the Class of 2022 officially opened on the 1st of September 2021.
A chosen group of 40 young architects, fashion designers, illustrators, furniture designers, jewellers, graphic designers, filmmakers, and multi-disciplinary mavericks from across South Africa will have the opportunity to showcase their work on our platform next year.
Our longstanding and much-lauded Emerging Creatives programme was founded in 2005 is supported by the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture. It has helped launch celebrated and vibrant young designers such as Laduma Ngxokolo, Katherine-Mary Pichulik, Neo Mahlangu, Andile Dyalvane, Russell Abrahams, Crystal Birch, Rich Mnisi and Thebe Magugu – and you could be next! The programme acts as a career accelerator for its participants - identified as South Africa's future generation of designers - by providing a platform, support, education and mentorship.
While the format of the 2022 programme has gone digital due to the pandemic, it still offers once-in-a-lifetime opportunities for participants. If you’re selected as an Emerging Creative, you will feature on designindaba.com and receive a year of prolonged national and international media exposure including online video, web articles and social media posts. You will also have the opportunity to attend online workshops hosted by industry experts.
Design Indaba founded the platform to help young creatives who have relatively little industry exposure yet. We have a strong belief in nurturing new creative talent and knocking down the barriers to entry for those just getting started.
