Polish studio Gie El, leans in to the burgeoning design trend of neuroaesthetics, creating functional lighting compositions to stimulate rich user experiences. The field of neuroaesthetics explores effects art and design have on the user’s body, brain and behaviour through emerging brain imaging technologies – with the aim to understand how art and design can be applied to improve human experiences, helping people and communities flourish.
Gie El studio explains; Designing according to the principles of neuroesthetics means creating environments that positively impact the mental and physical health of their users. Well-designed objects can evoke a wide range of emotions, from a sense of awe and excitement when viewing a piece of art to the calming and soothing effect of a well-designed room or chandelier. "The design and manufacturing process is a time when we embed a certain energy into the product, creating a story that remains there forever. We pass this energy on to our customers. For me as a designer, creating everyday objects is not about the object itself but its empirical value and the aura it carries," comments Jacek Rypuła, architect and co-founder of Gie El.
This design processes shifts the conversation of form and function to a deeper level, allowing designers and users to interrogate how product influence their day-to-day experiences. Take a look at Gie El’s Chandelier designs, small works of functional art, designed to intrigue and stimulate emotions.
