Nature powered mesmerizing visual installation

Arc ZERO: Eclipse is a site-specific installation by Studio JT, led by designer James Tapscott, framing the Han River in Seoul. The work consists of a semi-circular structure integrated into an infinity-edge reflecting pool, forming a complete circular visual through its reflection. The piece engages with natural elements—mist, water, and light—to transform the public space into a contemplative encounter with nature and perception.

When seen from specific angles, the structure and its reflection form a perfect circle—an oculus that seems to shimmer between reality and illusion. Eclipse emphasizes visual framing and reflection, aligning with the site's function as a rooftop garden within a mixed-use development in Godeok, Seoul. Its placement is selected to frame a prominent view of the Han River constantly shifting with the light, weather, and time of day, to offer viewers a moment of stillness in Seoul’s urban flow

Tapscott’s material of choice isn’t concrete or steel, but atmosphere itself. A continuous veil of fine mist flows from the structure, diffusing both natural sunlight and nighttime illumination into a glowing halo. Unlike digital or screen-based public artworks, Arc ZERO is resolutely analog. It relies on air, water, and gravity—designed precision guiding the mist into a mesmerizingvisual interaction with its environment.

Arc ZERO: Eclipse continues a series of similar works installed internationally, including a permanent installation in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, which received recognition through the 2023 CODA award for landscape art.
