Shot by Zander Opperman and styled by Armand Dicker - with creative direction by Lezanne Viviers - the latest lookbook from Marianne Fassler is bursting with colour, texture and energy. Featuring pieces from the fittingly named #FASSLERFABULOUS Autumn/winter ’17 collection, the images form a visually striking celebration of the 40th anniversary of Fassler’s eponymous fashion label.
While the iconic South African brand has begun to attract a new generation of fans, it still maintains its highly recognisable aesthetic. While bright colours and leopard print are still prevalent, the pieces have a fresh, modern energy to them. Focussing on elements of craftsmanship, texture, pattern disruption, every single garment in the collection garment is hand-cut, hand-dyed, hand-embroidered and hand-beaded.
A continuation of the their previous #ARTANDBLING editorial, the lookbook explores aspects of sharing and concealing through social media. By incorporating mirrors, Viviers creates a narrative that metaphorically reflects and enhances imagery but obscures the true source of the reflection.
In a conversation with Wanted Online, Fassler explained the thinking behind the #FASSLERFABULOUS collection:
“We wanted to revisit themes from our archive and disrupt preconceptions around the use of leopard, tartan and spots, recurring themes throughout my 40 year career.”
