Ever sat at work and wondered what your pooch is up to? Well, put your idle thoughts to rest with SNIF, a little pet accessory that combines wireless sensing and social networking technologies, developed by Pretoria-based tech consultancy Readymade and a group of graduates from MIT.

This lightweight gadget fits comfortably onto a dog collar and enables owners to be more in touch with their pet and their local pet-owning community. Acting somewhat like the Nike+iPod Run gadget, SNIF measures the mutt’s activities indoors and out, and uploads the information onto its personal data profile on the owner’s computer.

After taking the dog for some outdoor activity, you can also monitor which pooches it met as the SNIF tag emits and receives profiles of local canines through WiFi. The social-networking based website also then allows the owner to befriend other dog owners in the area. And, this is where the infomercial gets creepy, even date them. Yes, ultimately SNIF is punted as a dating magnet!
