Co-founded by Thomas Heatherwick, D-J Collins, EarlyHealth is a company working towards providing people with in-home health diagnostics leading to early detection, treatment and prevention of health challenges. Their Early home device, designed by a team of designers, scientists and medical experts is an at-home testing system designed to make early detection part of everyday life. EarlyLab combines a disposable urine test with a compact home laboratory. Using electrochemical sensor technology and patented fluidics, the system analyses urine for biomarkers associated with conditions including urinary tract cancers, diabetes, kidney disease and cardiovascular risk, alongside everyday wellness markers. Results are delivered through an app in under five minutes, allowing users to track changes over time.
The design approach of the device deliberately steered away from the clinical aesthetic of traditional diagnostic equipment. Early’s home screening device has two keep components, a disposable testing stick and a ‘miniaturised’ lab. The test stick slots into the Lab to provide urine analysis within minutes via the connected app. The ambition is to make sophisticated health monitoring feel less like a medical intervention and more like an ordinary household routine.
