Colour with veggies

"Kleurentaart" is a cake made with vegetables to explore the possibilities of using food and colour in a variety of ways.

"Kleurentaart" is food colour experimentation project by Marriët Willems and Simone Kroon, collectively known as House of Origin.

Graduates of the Design Academy Eindhoven, the duo started experimenting with colouring cake and icing in a natural way and found that there are many ways to naturally extract colour from everyday food.

While it is well known that colour can be extracted from fruit like strawberries, Willems and Kroon chose to work with vegetables to create a cake. The Kleurentaart contains spinach with a variety of vegetables used for the colourful icing.

The "Kleurentaart" was originally made for  Design Academy Eindhoven lecturer Mathieu Meijers, who was known as the “colour guru”, to celebrate his 25 years of teaching.
