Emerging artists and designers annually showcase their talents through the medium of concrete as part of the PPC Imaginarium Awards. This year the South African-based competition extends its reach to include artists from or living in Zimbabwe, including resident holders and foreign students with study permits, who are not professionally established in their respective fields.
Entries into the competition’s six categories are now open. Using Portland cement-based concrete as a primary base or material, participants can exhibit their work in sculpture, jewellery, film, industrial, fashion design and architecture.
As well as a significant cash prize for each of the category winners, emerging artists and designers who are picked as finalists stand a chance to change their careers through financial support, recognition, mentorship and guidance. All finalists chosen will be included as part of the awards’ 2018 nationwide travelling exhibition.
Last year, the overall winner was chosen from the sculpture category. Mziwoxolo Makalima’s “Doubt-Queuing” represents the strength of a community.
Film entries close on Tuesday, 31 October 2017. Entries for the sculpture, industrial design, fashion, jewellery and architecture categories close on Friday, 1 December 2017.
National judging and the 2018 winners announcement will take place in April 2018. The winner and runner-up in the architecture category will be announced in May 2018.
