Design Indaba FilmFest will screen The Otherside, a documentary taking an in-depth look into the thriving Seattle Hip Hop scene – the new sound of the city.
In this short clip, producer JR Celski gives insight into what made him create the documentary.
The Otherside is my love letter to Seattle and the artists who have inspired me to pursue my own passion, says Celski.
After recovering from a gruesome injury and winning two bronze medals at the Vancouver Winter Games in 2010, Celski took a much-needed break from short track speed skating. Along with Daniel Torok, Terrence Santos and Vinny Dom, he founded his own film production company, MAD Northwest.
The Otherside is MAD Northwest’s first production. The hour-long documentary contains interviews, concerts and backstage footage taken over three years. It features pre-stardom Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, among many others.
The thriving Hip Hop scene and performers gave Celski a new kind of dedication, who realised quitting is never an option.
Today he is taking part at the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics.
Don't miss your chance to get a firsthand look at the diverse mix of talent that defines Pacific Northwest Hip Hop.
