Evict Them in 5 Easy Steps

Harry Pearce's "Evict Them in 5 Easy Steps" is a short film that raises awareness around the ever-growing problem of forced eviction.

With the ever-increasing problem of forced eviction, Harry Pearce has created a sarcastic short film to raise awareness of this inhumane violation.

For the past 20 years, Pentagram’s Pearce has been designing and creating various campaigns for WITNESS, a non-profit human rights organisation. For a new major campaign, WITNESS has joined forces with Amnesty International to highlight and prevent the problem of forced eviction, which affects millions of people worldwide.

Pearce, in collaboration with Naresh Ramchandani, created the illustrations and titles for the short film Evict Them in 5 Easy Steps. The film is filled with sarcastic remarks and innuendos that highlight how ridiculously easy it seems to be for corporations and governments to evict people. The mischievous film instructs how people can be forcibly removed in “5 easy steps”.

We wanted to make forced eviction seem as easy as replacing a cartridge for a printer. We drew attention to the astonishing callousness involved; we juxtaposed simplicity, in the formal playful animation and jaunty voiceover, with brutality, in the form of a growing sense of moral unease and actual footage of real evictions, says Ramchandani
