“Cream on Chrome” by Steve Scott and Will Sweeney

A vintage-inspired sci-fi animation for “Cream on Chrome”, NYC duo Ratatat’s first song in five years.

This slightly psychedelic animated music video by London-based director Steve Scott and animator Will Sweeney is a perfect end-of-the-week visual treat.  Made for by alternative rock duo Ratatat’s “Cream on Chrome”, the visuals take you on an extra-terrestrial interstellar adventure.

An alien zooms across the screen in his space car towards a planetary castle. There he inserts his hand into a wriggling mound of flesh that transforms him into a superhero shooting rings of fire from his one palm and toxic vines from the other.

The 1980s look of “Cream on Chrome” perfectly suits Ratatat’s retro sound with its laid-back instrumental grooves spiked with bursts of electric guitar.

The video is inspired by 1973 French sci-fi feature film La Planète Sauvage, which uses stop-motion animation to tell an allegorical tale of a group of small human-like creatures and their large blue-skinned oppressors.
