We’ve known for decades that sharing is caring but today openness is your key to survival in the creative community. For a very long time design was an exclusive, if not somewhat elitist, field of endeavour, restricted to those who had talent or were “really creative”. But all of that changed when we “entered the era of design by everyone”, as the book Open Design Now describes it.
Looking at “why design cannot remain exclusive”, Bas van Abel, Lucas Evers, Roel Klaassen and Peter Troxler consider open design from its roots to where it is today and where it might go in the future. Published by BIS Publishers, Open Design Now comprises articles, case studies and a visual index to school anybody, from design professionals and business people to passionate amateurs, in the art of open design.
